Welcome to the
Joint Research Centre (JRC) Landmine Signatures
Database Home Page (the current URL is
http://apl-database.jrc.it).
The European Commission
(EC) is currently leading an R&D Program on
Humanitarian Demining through its EC DG Information Society
(further information on this activity is
available through the
EU Mine Actions web-site). Within the frame of this Program,
one of missions of the JRC is to develop a database of anti-personnel
landmine (APL) signatures. The sensor classes considered so far include
radar (e.g.:GPR), thermal infrared (TIR) and metal
detectors.
Other activities presently taking place at the JRC include the
provision of test and evaluation facilities to the different consortia
running contracts within the EC Humanitarian Demining Program managed
by EC DG Information Society, and the participation as a main partner in
the
ARIS Network of Excellence and the
Joint
Multi-Sensor Mine Signature Measurement Campaign (MSMS).
The main objective in making this database publicly available is
to support the scientific community in the advance of the state of
the art in APL detection and identification.
This database is intended to host signature data gathered
internally at the JRC and, what is more important, from external
sources (e.g.: National Humanitarian Demining Programs, consortia
currently running contracts with EC DG Information Society, research
laboratories in Universities and Industries,...).
Access to the signature data is only permitted after completing the
registration procedure.
This Database has been created within the framework of
two projects with EC DG Information Society
(Projects 501851-SIGEX and 501032-MINESIGN).
Access to the signature data is subject to this
legal disclaimer.
